[He leans back again, idly shuffling the cards.] The trick is to balance hard work and never let go of your joy, even when life disappoints you. Because once that's gone, it won't matter how hard you work or what you've been through. It'll all just be one more hurdle for you to get over with nothing on the other side but more hurdles.
[He puffs out his cheeks and exhales.] To be honest? [Not that he's ever really that.] I feel like there's more people who have than there are who haven't. A lot of people simply just don't know how to have a good time and enjoy what moments they're given.
[He snorts.] Maybe for some people. I never plan anything farther than a day in advance. Too much could happen that'll tear all of that to shit, and then you just have to plan ahead again, and so on and so forth. [He flicks a wrist flamboyantly.] That's not for me. I see futures, I set people on the right paths to get to those futures, but the rest is just enjoying the ride.
[She sits back and thinks about that, her arms crossed.] Okay, but what if you wanted to plan a party? You'd have to take time to make sure you could have a place, and that there'd be enough food, and you'd have to let everyone know that, y'know, there'd be a party so that they could come. That takes more than a day!
You know? I think I would. Something to consider for the future. I suddenly have a lot of time on my hands. And afterwards, I'll add "walking contradiction" to my list of titles.
